Welcome to Black Dog Chalet, a spacious 6 bedroom retreat in the Alpine Village.
Made for families, it pairs unobstructed mountain views with warm gathering spaces, a wood-burning stove, full kitchen and private balconies.
In winter, the roads close to vehicles and the village transforms into a snow-covered wonderland explored on foot, skis or sleds. In summer, mountain trails and Strathcona Provincial Park are minutes away.
A new private hot tub will be ready for stays from November 1.
Black Dog Chalet was designed around time together. Across three levels, six bedrooms and three bathrooms give families and groups room to gather while still offering quieter spaces to retreat.
The four-bedroom main chalet is the heart of the home. A full kitchen and dining area open into the living space, where a wood-burning stove, warm timber details and expansive windows create a natural gathering place overlooking the mountains. Private balconies invite you outside to take in the views.
Upstairs, the king bedroom and one queen bedroom enjoy beautiful mountain views and access to balconies. A second queen bedroom is also upstairs, while another queen bedroom on the main floor offers a convenient option for guests who prefer fewer stairs.
The main chalet is intentionally TV-free—an invitation to disconnect to reconnect. There are board games for evenings around the fire, while Wi-Fi is available throughout for guests who want to stay connected or use their own devices. There are no TVs in the main chalet.
The separate lower suite offers another side of the experience, with a queen bedroom, bunk room, full bathroom, kitchen and living area with a Smart TV—perfect for a movie night or for part of the group to enjoy their own space.
This two-living-area layout is especially well suited to extended families and families travelling together. The main chalet and lower suite have separate exterior entrances and are not connected from inside. Both spaces are exclusively yours throughout your stay.
A new private hot tub will be available for stays beginning November 1, 2026.
Guests have private access to the entire property, including the four-bedroom main chalet and separate two-bedroom lower suite. Each has its own exterior entrance, and both are exclusively yours.
❄️ WINTER IN ALPINE VILLAGE
Black Dog Chalet is located in Mount Washington’s Alpine Village, a unique mountainside community that transforms into a walk-in village each winter. As the snow arrives, village roads close to vehicles and are groomed for winter travel, creating a nostalgic, snow-covered setting where guests move between chalets on foot, skis or sleds. In the warmer, snow-free months, the roads reopen and you can drive directly to the chalet.
🥾 THE WALK TO BLACK DOG
From the main Alpine Village parking area, it’s approximately a 7–8 minute walk to the chalet, or about 5 minutes from the gear-unloading zone. Black Dog sits just below the crest of Jutland Terrace, so the final approach includes a fairly steep uphill section that guests should be comfortable navigating in winter conditions.
We provide two hauling toboggans at the chalet for luggage, groceries and gear. Guests can also arrange paid gear hauling through Alpine Services. Full details are provided before arrival.
🚗 PARKING & SNOW-FREE ACCESS
While village roads are closed, parking requires advance registration. Black Dog has registration for up to five vehicles: four for village parking lots, plus one for the Main Parking Lot on Strathcona Parkway. We’ll collect the required vehicle information and provide detailed parking instructions before your stay.
Road opening and closing dates are determined by Alpine Village Strata and snow conditions, so walk-in access can extend into the shoulder seasons.
During the snow-free season, you can drive directly to the chalet, with space for approximately two to three vehicles in front, depending on vehicle size. Additional parking is available at Dougan’s Parking Lot, a short walk away.
Black Dog Chalet is professionally managed by Strathcona Summit Solutions, a local Mount Washington property-management team.
We respect your privacy throughout your stay, but we’re close by if you need us. Our team is available to answer questions, help with the property or assist if something unexpected comes up.
The easiest way to reach us is through your booking platform messaging, and we encourage you to get in touch anytime you need assistance during your stay.
A few important details to make sure Black Dog Chalet is the right fit for your group:
TWO SEPARATE LIVING AREAS
Your reservation includes the entire property: the four-bedroom main chalet and two-bedroom lower suite. Both spaces are exclusively yours, but they are not connected from inside. Guests move between them using the exterior entrances.
WINTER & SHOULDER-SEASON ACCESS
Alpine Village becomes walk-in while the village roads are closed. You cannot drive directly to the chalet during this time. The walk is approximately 7–8 minutes from the main parking area and includes a fairly steep uphill section near the chalet. Road closures depend on snow conditions and can extend beyond the core ski season.
TV-FREE MAIN CHALET
The main chalet is intentionally TV-free—a place to disconnect to reconnect. Wi-Fi is available throughout, and the lower suite has a Smart TV for movie nights and streaming.
NEW PRIVATE HOT TUB
Available for stays beginning December 1, 2026, our new private hot tub seats four adults. Hot tub access is not available before this date.
